Kim Smith's Nova Noir will take the stage at The Manderley Bar (at the McKittrick Hotel) on January 20, at 10:30PM in a free concert, conjuring the glitter and doom of Weimar-era Germany, and the electronic heartbeat of modern pop in a Frankenstein's monster of genre-mashing and music making.
Fronting a too-talented band led by the inimitable Benjamin Ickies, Kim Smith performs his own electropop originals alongside peculiar period treasures, incorporating works by Friedrich Hollaender, Kylie Minogue, Kurt Weill, Madonna, The Supremes, Mischa Spoliansky, and myriad others.
Kim Smith/Nova Noir January 20, 10:30PM at The Manderley Bar/The McKittrick Hotel (530 West 27th Street, NYC). FREE!
“Completely stellar…slyly subversive.”
Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal, NYC
“He happily considers himself as a misfit, and goes about proving his point in several languages. There’s no one else around these days offering the kind of cabaret that he does so compellingly. Well, maybe Ute Lemper, but that’s it. Smith needs to be seen, and now.”
David Finkle, The Village Voice, New York City
