Morphium Kabarett at Pangea

  • Pangea 178 2nd Avenue New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

“In his playfulness, Mr. Smith is a descendant of his fellow Australian Peter Allen. He could be described as a younger generation’s “Boy From Oz.”” Stephen Holden, The New York Times

Described by Broadway World as the "David Bowie of cabaret," "slyly subversive" by the Wall Street Journal, and labeled the "male Marlene Dietrich" by the New York Times, Australian Kim David Smith conjures the glitter, doom, and decadence of 1920’s Berlin with “Morphium Kabarett.”

Named for the sensual, Spoliansky-penned waltz (famously danced to by a nude Anita Berber), Morphium Kabarett is musically directed by Tracy Stark (“Superb, virtuosic pianist” - New York Post), with Skip Ward on bass, and features the music of Hollaender, Weill, and Spoliansky, mixed with Kylie Minogue, the Supremes, and myriad unexpected others, in a neo-Weimar cabaret fantasia.

MORPHIUM KABARETT at Pangea (178 2nd Ave, NYC) February 2, 9, 15 and 22, 7:30PM. Visit www.pangeanyc.com or call 212-995-0900 for reservations!

“Mr. Smith, a transplanted Australian who has lived in New York for nearly a decade, is a living artwork with a sculpted body and the haughty attitude of a beautiful young man (he’s in his early 30s) acutely aware of his value as a love object.” Stephen Holden, The New York Times
